Food Prices in Ghana – June 2020

COUNTRYWIDE ANALYSIS

Most commodity prices increased in the month of June. Cassava (fresh tubers) made the highest gain of 12.99 percent to close the month at GHS 158.00 per bag. Imported rice also gained 9.90 percent to close at GHS 404.00 per bag. Pona gained 6.65 percent to close at GHS 892.67 per 100 tubers with cowpea white also gaining 6.03 percent to close at GHS 452.00 per bag. Gari increased by 3.10 percent to close at GHS 242.14 per bag with groundnut shelled also gaining 2.93 percent to close at 582.29 per bag. Wheat gained 1.54 percent to close at GHS 304.20 per bag with maize also gaining 0.52 percent to close at GHS 167.14 per bag.

However, the price of tomato plunged by 42.99 percent to close at GHS 532.00 per crate with local rice losing 2.49 percent to close at GHS 336.29

Out Look for July 2020, all things being equal it is expected that commodity prices some commodities will see reduction in prices while a few will see increases.


CROP ANALYSIS

Maize

The average price for a bag of maize gained 0.52 percent to close the month at GHS 167.14. The highest price of GHS240.00 was recorded at Takoradi. The lowest price of GHS 110.00 was recorded at Bawku.

 

Rice Local

The average price for a bag of local rice lost 2.49 percent to close the month at GHS 336.29. The highest price GHS 440, was recorded at Dambai with the lowest  price of GHS 246.00 recorded at Tamale.

 

Tomato

A crate of tomato lost 42.99% to close the month at GHS 532.00. The highest price GHS 835.00, was recorded at Accra and the lowest price of GHS 200.00 was recorded at Kumasi.
