MEXICO CITY (Esoko News). – Esoko Mexico resellers Nicolas Demeilliers and Jose L Amaya have recently secured a pilot with Environmental Defense Fund (EDF de Mexico), a sustainable fisheries NGO headquartered in New York. As part of the project, our Mexican partners will provide daily prices from Mexico City’s La Nueva Viga fish market (world’s second largest, only behind Tsukiji in Japan) for corvina drum fish (Cilus gilberti). This pilot is aimed to provide market information and impact the livelihoods of 300 corvina drum fishermen in the Gulf of California (northern Mexico; see image below), who typically supply landlocked Mexico City with the precious saltwater fish.
When asked for comments, Esoko Mexico CEO and co-founder Nicolas Demeilliers said, “it is a very exciting project; not only because we have the ability to give a lot of market transparency for fishermen, but also because we are pioneering with a client from the fishing sector. We are very grateful to EDF for their trust and with Esoko for their support!”
